The Faustino family bought land in several part of the region, planted Tempranillo grapes and commissioned Norman Foster to design a stunning star shaped winery that will be ready in 2008. Portia own about 160 ha of south and east facing vineyards divided into several small parcels spread across the districts of Roa, Gumiel del Izan, Gumiel de Marcado and Villanueva de Gumiel in Ribero del Duero, which allows for means that a variety of styles of wine are available to create the final blends. The region is hot in the summer but altitudes of 7-850m mean that it cools down at night and so grapes ripen easily yet retain refreshing acidity.
