Winery
Portia is the name of the seventh satellite circling Uranus, symbolizing all that is rebellious and original. Astrologically it represents the discoverer or pioneer. Portia is also the name of the winery created by the owners of Faustino in Ribera del Duero as part of their strategy of creating pioneering exciting new wines. The Faustino family bought land in several part of the region, planted Tempranillo grapes and commissioned Norman Foster to design a stunning star shaped winery that will be ready in 2008. The first wine released by the bodega, Portia 2003 was awarded a gold medal as best Tempranillo in the world at an international competition in Cologne.

Viticulture
Portia own about 160 ha of south and east facing vineyards divided into several small parcels spread across the districts of Roa, Gumiel del Izan, Gumiel de Marcado and Villanueva de Gumiel in Ribero del Duero, which allows for means that a variety of styles of wine are available to create the final blends. The region is hot in the summer but altitudes of 7-850m mean that it cools down at night and so grapes ripen easily yet retain refreshing acidity.
Winemaking & Maturation
Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures ranging between 25-28°C, followed by ageing for 10 months American oak before bottling. The bottled wine underwent a further six months aging prior to release
Tasting Note
Appearance: Deep ruby. Nose: Concentrated dark berry fruit, enhanced by a little spice and vanilla drawn from oak ageing. Palate: Excellent balance between intense fruit and creamy oak notes allied to a a smooth texture.Cellaring Potential
It is ready to enjoy upon release but may enjoyed for a further 8-10 years after the vintage date.
Food Recommendations
Roast red meats, meat or vegetables in wine sauces and medium strength cheeses.
